Rinpung Dzong: The Dzong is originally Rinchen Pung Dzong but is famous with its shortened name – Rinpung Dzong, which means ‘Fortress on a Heap of Jewels’. In 1644, its construction began on the order of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. It is looked upon as a masterpiece of Bhutanese monastery and hosts Paro Tsechu – festival of masks. Formerly the National Assembly meeting hall, the Dzong now is home to monastic body, district government offices, and local courts. Its splendid architecture and breathtaking views make it a must visit attraction among Bhutan tourist places. The fortress defended Paro valley against Tibetan invasions throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. National Museum: Take a sneak peek into the history at this museum, which is located in an age-old ta dzong (watch tower). Here, a tasteful collection of ancient weapons, coins, Bhutanese art and artifacts, and stamps is displayed. Go through the 3D map of Bhutan in the natural-history gallery. After visiting, you can walk down a path from the museum to the Dzong and back to the town, enjoying good views of the valley and of the Ugyen Pelri Palace.
